The Day’s Pay was a B-17 bomber purchased by employees of the Hanford Engineer Works in 1944 who were encouraged to “give a day’s pay and send a bomber on its way” to the European theater. The plane was purchased with these individual donations\, had a short ceremony here at the Hanford Construction Camp (about 10 miles north of our campus near the town of Hanford)\, and then flew over 60 missions in Europe before being excessed and scrapped at the end of the war. More historical information on the Day’s Pay can be found at http://www.historylink.org/File/7491. \nThe Hanford History Project is helping a local historian\, Don Sorenson\, plan events commemorating this history. Mr. Wineinger will be visiting us for several days from his home in Holcomb\, KS and this Presentation/Q&A will also feature artifacts and archival material from the Day’s Pay and some of the crew reunions. This talk is open to students\, staff\, faculty\, and the general public. Please tell your students and consider attending what is sure to be an interesting talk and discussion!
